Friday night, Ladder 18 was alerted to assist Wilmington Manor on a Residential Gas Odor in the Chadwick Community. Upon arrival, the crew was directed to stage at the apparatus. During that time, a box alarm was dispatched for fire from the roof at 500 Centerpoint Blvd. Ladder 18 and multiple other units cleared the gas odor and responded. First arriving units reported fire from the roof. Engine 18 arrived and secured the water supply, pumped to E12 and supplied the sprinkler system as well as the 300’ handline. Ladder 18 arrived and set up to go to the roof. Engine 12 stretched a handline into the building and up the roof access ladder and another up Ladder 18’s area. The crews found the rubber roof material on fire around two exhaust fans. The fires were extinguished and the areas around them opened up. Apparatus and manpower on scene totaled 3 alarms. Units operated for two hours before clearing.
Companies responding included Good Will, Christiana, Holloway Terrace, Delaware City, Wilmington Manor, Minquas, Minquadale, Five Points, Elsmere, and Deepwater (NJ).
