Haz-Mat Incident in Holloway Terrace

At 4:30pm, Station 18 was alerted to assist Holloway Terrace Fire Company on a commercial hazmat situation at Croda, Inc. Ladder and Engine 18 responded on the initial alarm. Squad 18 later responded as an additional engine company. It was determined that an ethylene oxide leak was present in the plant and that the plants fire system needed external support. Engine and Squad 18 both pumped hydrants that we’re supplying 3000’ supply lines from Cherry Lane to support the fire suppression system in the plant. Units operated for over 8 hours, finally clearing around 12:30am. Units from around the county were moved into the New Castle area to provide fire and ems coverage during the incident.
