House Fire with MAYDAY and Hazmat Incident
Thursday, March 14, 2019

Ladder 18 made the response on the second alarm to a house fire at 3200 Mill Creek Road after a MAYDAY was declared by first alarm units. Ladder 18 arrived and was assigned the RIT company.

While there, Delaware City Fire Co Squad 15 was alerted to an Inside Odor investigation on Centerpoint Blvd. Upon the arrival, the crew investigated and found some type of odor with conflicting reports from staff members. The NCC HAZMAT/Decon and Team DNREC were originally alerted to respond and assist with the investigation. Due to units operating on the fire, many of the members of the HAZMAT/Decon team were unavailable to respond. The Kent County HAZMAT team was requested and responded. Ladder 18 also made the response back to New Castle for the incident. A team from DNREC swept the building and found no source or hazardous conditions. The building was turned back over to the business and all units cleared shortly after.

We ask that everyone keep the Minquas Fire Company #1 and Capt. Smiley in your thoughts and prayers as he starts his long road to recovery.
