The past 24 hours have been extremely interesting for the members and staff of Station 18.
Saturday night, just after 10pm, MRU-18, 18-M2 and Deputy Chief 18 responded to Route 9 north of Governor Lea Rd to assist Delaware City on a Sinking Vehicle with Entrapment. Units arrived and found 2 patients trapped on the roof of their sinking vehicle. Water Rescue Technicians from Good Will deployed into the water, and placed both patients in a small inflatable boat, and removed them from the water. Ambulance 15 evaluated the patients. The crew then stabilized the vehicle and assisted with removing it from the water, before returning.
Shortly before 9am, the New Castle County Fireboard dispatched a Plane Crash, with unconfirmed reports of its location. Engine 18 responded with 4, and assisted with searching. Deputy Chief 18 (K.Stockman) located the aircraft, overturned and into a ditch, with limited access to the crash site. Engine 18 and QRS 18 reported to staging, and Newport Command (Deputy Mills, Sta.23) quickly put the units to work. Engine 18 assisted with extrication efforts, and accessing the occupants, both of which were heavily entrapped. QRS-18 stood-by to receive the patients, and would have been used to transport the patients. Both patients were found to have not survived the accident. With respect to the occupants, and the on-going investigation, no other pictures will be published by the Good-Will Fire Company.
Special thanks to the members and staff that have performed at the highest level with 2 complex incidents, and to the mutual aid agencies that we have worked with.
